I thought everyone was due for a second update, especially now we have had time to settle down from the new year, get a few games under our belts and now leading up to our first "competitive" game this Sunday in NM Cup away to Ørsta!
Since the last blog, we have played 4 matches; 2 in OBOS Cup and 2 training games. Our opening game was a 4-4 draw with Hovdebygda. A game with many changes and only our second time on a full size pitch (including trainings) so it was nice to dust down the cobwebs and play a game of football. Maybe a surprising result for some, but for me the results at this stage are/were irrelevant. It is about implementing our philosophies from trainings and into the match. I saw a few small instances of these in how we want to build up. Along with this we gave 6 debuts for the A-Lag with an extremely young team taking to the field.
Our second game against Spjelkavik was tough! Spjelkavik are well organised and well drilled and will be a good 3rd division team this year. Still without our full team (injury mentions coming soon), we saw we were still quite off the level we want to be at come the new season. But steps forward from the game against Hovdebygda and a step in the right direction. So we then took on Guard in our first OBOS Cup game took us a 6-2 win, but we was unhappy overall with the performance. Looking back, we made 496 passes and a 91.6% successful pass rate! Thats extremely high for any level, which resulted in 34 shots in total. Finally our game last night against Sykkylven, who are notoriously difficult to play away against, a team we struggled last year to beat! But yesterday was a different story. Two debuts were also made with Magnus Myklebust (scoring 2 goals) and 15 year old Vegard Håheim Elveseter. First half produced a better performance of late, but the second half was storming and left Sykkylven struggling to cope. The combination play going forward was very fine resulting in 5 second half goals.
Now we feel much better prepared for the cup game Sunday. We have worked hard in training in how we want to play, off the pitch we have done an extremely in depth analysis of Ørsta to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses. We have done everything we can to prepare well, and now it will be down to a game between two good teams. Ørsta gave us some difficult games last year and we go in with respect for them. But we dont do anything different to our second half yesterday, and are confident in ourselves to get a result. NM Cup vs Ørsta, away, 15:30 kick off... I really hope we can get as much support to Ørsta as possible to help push the boys on.
News on injuries, Fredrik is still out with his knee but we hope will start training again at the end of the month. Our new signing Roald Runde also joined us injured with a bad ankle but we are working with him on that and hope to see him in training soon. Lastly, Marius suffered a knee injury at school a few weeks back and still waiting to hear when his scan is so we know better what the problem is. Otherwise a clean bill of health assuming this week goes well! Also a mention to our new fitness coach, Konstanse, who has been doing a fine job with the boys. We have one sesion a week inside a studio working on cardio, balance, core strength and other physical strengths required for a footballer. This is an exciting addition to our coaching staff and we look forward to using this to our advantage this coming season.
